# Notra moves to paid trials and says goodbye to free

We shipped a pricing change this week. Basic is $20/month with $12 of included usage, and Pro is $50/month with $32 of included usage. Notra no longer has a free tier, though it might return in the future if our economics allow it.

## From free to trial

With a free tier, you can't tell whether someone stops using the product because it doesn't work for them or because they had no reason to try it. A trial with a fixed end date fixes that. Users who pay after three days have seen enough value to act on it.

Usage pays for the work itself, such as generating a changelog, drafting a blog post or creating social media content. If you run out, you can top up without changing plans.

## Why we did this

A free tier looks generous if growth is the only number you watch, but it hides what the product costs to run. Syncing with GitHub and Linear, running LLMs on every generation and storing and versioning your content all cost money.
