# Referrals and conversions

> AI referrals are people who clicked through to your site from an AI answer. Conversion paths count which of them reached signup or checkout.

An AI referral is a person who clicked a link in an AI answer and landed on your site. Notra recognizes them by the referrer host:

Subdomains of these hosts also count, but Notra does not read `utm_source` parameters.

## Conversions

Add **Conversion paths** in [Brand and domains](/docs/geo/brand-and-domains), for example `/signup` or `/pricing`, up to 20 of them.

A conversion is an AI referral that lands on one of those paths. Paths match by prefix, so `/pricing` also counts `/pricing/teams`, while `/` only matches the home page.

Conversions show up as the **Conversions** stage in the hero of the [Traffic](/docs/ai-traffic/overview) page, for the selected date range.

`GET /v1/projects/{projectId}/geo/traffic/overview` returns `totals.conversions`, which is `null` when the project has no conversion paths.

## Limits

* Notra only counts the page the referral landed on, so a visitor who lands on a blog post and signs up later is not a conversion.
* Apps that strip the referrer header, and AI engines not in the table, are not counted as referrals.
