# Quickstart

> Set up your workspace, run your first GEO scan, and generate your first post

This guide walks you through onboarding, your first GEO scan, and, as a second part, connecting GitHub and generating your first post in Studio.

<Note>
  **Before you begin:** you need a public website for the brand you want to track. For the Studio part you also need a GitHub account with access to at least one repository.
</Note>

## Part 1: Onboarding

Sign up at `app.usenotra.com`. Onboarding has four steps and a progress indicator at the top of each screen.

### 1. Set up your workspace

<Steps>
  <Step title="Name and slug">
    Enter your workspace **Name** (for example "Acme Inc"). The **Slug** fills in automatically and becomes your workspace URL: `app.usenotra.com/acme-inc`. You can edit the slug before continuing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Website">
    Enter your website (for example `acme.com`). Notra reads it in the background to pick up your brand voice and creates your default brand identity from it. The field is optional, but without it the next step cannot suggest prompts and you will type your brand name by hand.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Where did you hear about Notra?">
    Optional. Pick a source or choose Other and tell us.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Continue">
    Click **Continue**. Your workspace and default brand identity are created.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  The slug cannot be changed after onboarding, so choose something that represents your company or team.
</Tip>

### 2. See what AI says about you

Notra is a modern GEO tool that asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the questions your buyers ask. See if you show up, who shows up instead and how to fix it. This step decides what to look for in the answers.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Let Notra read your website">
    Your website is prefilled from step 1. Notra reads it, which takes about 20 seconds, and suggests your brand name, aliases and a starter set of prompts. If the site cannot be read, check the address or type your brand name below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm your brand name">
    The **Brand name** field is what Notra looks for in AI answers, usually the name on your homepage. Adjust it if needed.

    Below the field you will see how many questions were pulled from your site. You can edit them later under **Prompts**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Continue">
    Click **Continue** to save the brand and prompts. **Skip for now** takes you straight to plan selection; you can set tracking up later from GEO Settings.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### 3. Pick your competitors

When AI recommends someone instead of you, who is it? This step chooses the brands you are measured against.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Review suggestions">
    Notra suggests other companies in your field based on your domain. Click a suggestion to add it, **Show more** to see the full list, or **Add all**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search for a brand">
    Use **Add a brand** to search for any competitor that is not suggested. You can track up to 25 competitors.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start tracking">
    Click **Start tracking**. Notra saves your competitors and runs your first scan in the background. If your workspace does not have a plan with AI answers yet, the button reads **Continue** and you run the first scan after choosing a plan.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### 4. Choose your plan

Pick **Starter**, **Growth** or **Scale**, monthly or yearly. Each plan can add zero data retention for the AI providers Notra scans with. If you are eligible for a free trial, the plan card says so. After checkout you land in your workspace at `app.usenotra.com/{slug}`.

See [Billing](/docs/organization/billing) for what each plan includes.

## Part 2: Your first GEO scan

The sidebar opens in **GEO** mode. Use the switch at the top of the sidebar to move between **GEO** and **Studio**.

### 5. Run a scan

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Overview">
    Click **Overview** under Visibility. The header reads "How AI engines talk about your brand". If tracking is not set up yet, click **Set up tracking** to add your brand name and the engines to track.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run Scan">
    Click **Run Scan** (or press **R**). Notra sends every tracked prompt to every enabled model and checks each answer for your brand, aliases and competitors. The button shows a spinner while the scan runs; results fill in as they arrive.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the results">
    The Overview has three tabs:

    * **Visibility**: how often you are mentioned, per engine and over time, plus share of voice against your competitors
    * **Prompts**: results per prompt, so you can see which questions you win and which you lose
    * **Journeys**: how AI-driven visitors move through your site once Traffic is connected

    Use the range picker in the header to change the time window.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  Scans run automatically on the schedule set in GEO Settings (every day by default). Manual scans always work.
</Info>

### 6. Tune what gets tracked

    * **Languages**: the languages your prompts are scanned in. English is on by default
    * **Models**: each enabled provider runs on every prompt
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Prompts">
    Open **Prompts** under Visibility. Click **Add prompt** to add a question, **Import CSV** to bulk import, or accept suggestions. If you connect Google Search Console, the queries you already rank for become prompt suggestions.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Competitors">

  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Notra could not read my website during onboarding" icon="globe">
    * Check the address. Notra needs a publicly reachable site.
    * Type your brand name by hand and continue. You can add prompts later under **Prompts**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The Overview says AI visibility is not set up yet" icon="circle-exclamation">
    * Click **Set up tracking** and add your company name and at least one model in GEO Settings.
    * Make sure your plan includes AI answers. Onboarding with **Skip for now** leaves tracking unset until you finish Settings.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My scan finished but I see no mentions" icon="magnifying-glass">
    * Add **Aliases** in GEO Settings for other spellings, product names, or your bare domain.
    * Check the **Prompts** tab on the Overview to see the actual answers per engine.
    * Content Gaps lists the prompts where you are missing, which is the starting point for new content.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="No content is being generated" icon="file-lines">
    * Verify the schedule or trigger is **enabled**.
    * Check that the selected repositories have activity inside the lookback window.
    * The generator skips a run when every change is internal-only (dependency bumps, formatting, tests). Widen the lookback window or include more repositories.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Generated content does not sound like us" icon="volume-high">
    * Review **Brand Identity**: tone, custom instructions and audience.
    * Add real posts under **References** so the AI can match your style.
    * Choose **Re-analyze** from the identity menu if your website branding changed.
