This guide walks you through onboarding and your first GEO scan, then connecting GitHub and generating your first post in Studio.
Before you begin, you need a public website for the brand you want to track, and for the Studio part you also need a GitHub account with access to at least one repository.

Part 1: Onboarding

Sign up at app.usenotra.com to start onboarding, which has four steps and a progress indicator at the top of each screen.

1. Set up your workspace

1

Name and slug

Enter your workspace Name (for example “Acme Inc”), and the Slug fills in automatically to become your workspace URL, app.usenotra.com/acme-inc. You can edit the slug before continuing.
2

Website

Enter your website (for example acme.com). Notra reads it in the background, picks up your brand voice and creates your default brand identity from it. The field is optional, but without it the next step cannot suggest prompts and you type your brand name by hand.
3

Where did you hear about Notra?

This question is optional, so you can pick a source or choose Other and tell us.
4

Continue

Click Continue and Notra creates your workspace and default brand identity.
You cannot change the slug after onboarding, so pick one that represents your company or team.

2. See what AI says about you

Notra is a GEO tool that asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the questions your buyers ask, and the results show whether you appear, who appears instead and how to fix it. This step sets what Notra looks for in the answers.
1

Let Notra read your website

Your website is prefilled from step 1. Notra reads it, which takes about 20 seconds, and suggests your brand name, aliases and a starter set of prompts. If Notra cannot read the site, check the address or type your brand name below.
2

Confirm your brand name

The Brand name field is what Notra looks for in AI answers, usually the name on your homepage, so adjust it if needed.Below the field you will see how many questions Notra pulled from your site, and you can edit them later under Prompts.
3

Continue

Click Continue to save the brand and prompts. Skip for now takes you straight to plan selection, and you can set up tracking later from GEO Settings.

3. Pick your competitors

This step picks the brands Notra compares you with when AI recommends someone instead of you.
1

Review suggestions

Notra suggests other companies in your field based on your domain. Click a suggestion to add it, Show more to see the full list or Add all.
2

Search for a brand

Use Add a brand to search for any competitor Notra did not suggest, up to a total of 2,000 tracked competitors.
3

Start tracking

Click Start tracking and Notra saves your competitors and runs your first scan in the background. If your workspace does not have a plan with AI answers yet, the button reads Continue and you run the first scan after choosing a plan.

4. Choose your plan

Pick Starter, Growth or Scale, monthly or yearly, and each plan can add zero data retention for the AI providers Notra scans with. If you are eligible for a free trial, the plan card says so. After checkout you land in your workspace at app.usenotra.com/{slug}. See Billing for what each plan includes.

Part 2: Your first GEO scan

The sidebar opens in GEO mode, and you can use the switch at the top of the sidebar to move between GEO and Studio.

5. Run a scan

1

Open the Overview

Click Overview under Visibility, where the header reads “How AI engines talk about your brand”. If tracking is not set up yet, click Set up tracking to add your brand name and the engines to track.
2

Run Scan

Click Run Scan (or press R). Notra sends every tracked prompt to every enabled model and checks each answer for your brand, aliases and competitors. The button shows a spinner while the scan runs, and results fill in as they arrive.
3

Read the results

The Overview has three tabs:
  • Visibility: how often engines mention you, per engine and over time, plus share of voice against your competitors
  • Prompts: results per prompt, so you can see which questions you win and which you lose
  • Journeys: how AI-driven visitors move through your site once Traffic is connected
Use the range picker in the header to change the time window.
Scans run on the schedule set in GEO Settings, every day by default, and you can also run a scan manually at any time.

6. Tune what gets tracked

Open Settings under Improve.
  • Company name and Aliases: other spellings, product names or the bare domain that should count as a mention
  • Scan schedule: Every day, Every 48 hours, Every 3 days, Every week, Every 2 weeks or Every 30 days
  • Languages: the languages Notra scans your prompts in, with English on by default
  • Models: each enabled provider runs on every prompt
Read more in Prompts and Competitors.

7. Go further

AI traffic

Install the @usenotra/geo package in your Next.js, Nuxt, TanStack Start, Astro, SvelteKit or Netlify site and set NOTRA_GEO_TOKEN to see AI crawlers and referrals visiting your site.

Agent Readiness

Run a public scan of your website and get a 0 to 100 score with a Must do / Should do checklist.

Content Gaps

See which questions engines answer without mentioning you, and write an article to close the gap.

Part 3: Generate content in Studio

Switch the sidebar to Studio, which turns your engineering and product activity into changelogs, blog posts, tweets, LinkedIn posts and images.

8. Connect GitHub

1

Open Integrations

Click Integrations in the sidebar and open GitHub.
2

Install the Notra GitHub App

Click Connect and install the Notra GitHub App on your GitHub account or organization, and grant it access to the repositories you want Notra to read.
3

Select repositories

Back in Notra, pick the repositories granted to the app, and each one becomes a source for content generation.
Integrations connected earlier with a personal access token keep working and appear as legacy integrations, while new connections go through the GitHub App.
See GitHub for details and Linear, Slack and Framer for the other integrations.

9. Review your brand identity

Click Brand Identity in the sidebar. If you added a website during onboarding, Notra has already analyzed it (Scraping, Extracting, Saving) and filled in the Company Info tab.
1

Check the company profile

Check the Company name, Website and Description fields.
2

Set tone and language

Pick a tone (Conversational, Professional, Casual or Formal) and add custom tone notes if you like. Pick the Language for your content and add Custom Instructions such as phrases to avoid or features to always mention.
3

Describe your audience

Fill in Who are you writing for? with their role, interests and pain points. Developer audiences get PR links and non-developer audiences do not.
Changes save automatically, and Brand Voice explains how each field changes the output.

10. Create your first post

1

Open the Create Content wizard

Click New post at the top of the sidebar, or open Content and click the create button.
2

Choose formats

Pick one or more formats: Changelog entry, Blog post, LinkedIn post, Tweet or Image.
3

Choose activity

Select a timeframe and which data to include: Pull Requests, Commits and Releases from your repositories, plus Linear issues if connected, and search for or pick individual items.
4

Choose a brand identity

Pick the identity the post should be written in, then generate.
5

Review in Content

Generated posts appear in Content, grouped into collections, and you can open a post to edit it in the editor, refine it in the chat panel and click Publish when it is ready. You can post tweets and LinkedIn posts directly to connected X and LinkedIn accounts.
Every generated post starts as a Draft so you can review it before it goes anywhere.

11. Automate it

Open Schedules under Automation and create a schedule:
  • Frequency: Daily, Weekly (pick a day of the week) or Monthly (pick a day of the month)
  • Time: hour and minute in UTC
  • Repositories to include
  • Output type and brand identity
  • Lookback window: Current day, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 14 days or Last 30 days
  • Auto-publish to skip the draft stage
Use Run now on a schedule to test it without waiting.
See Scheduled workflows and Event-based triggers.

Troubleshooting

  • Check the address, because Notra needs a publicly reachable site.
  • Type your brand name by hand and continue, then add prompts later under Prompts.
  • Click Set up tracking and add your company name and at least one model in GEO Settings.
  • Make sure your plan includes AI answers, since onboarding with Skip for now leaves tracking unset until you finish Settings.
  • Add Aliases in GEO Settings for other spellings, product names or your bare domain.
  • Check the Prompts tab on the Overview to see the actual answers per engine.
  • Content Gaps lists the prompts where you are missing, so start new content from there.
  • Verify the schedule or trigger is enabled.
  • Check that the selected repositories have activity inside the lookback window.
  • The generator skips a run when every change is internal-only (dependency bumps, formatting, tests), so widen the lookback window or include more repositories.
  • Review Brand Identity: tone, custom instructions and audience.
  • Add real posts under References so the AI can match your style.
  • Choose Re-analyze from the identity menu if your website branding changed.
